Dr Nerys Llewelyn Jones is the founder and current Managing Partner which was established on her home farm in Pumsaint, Carmarthenshire in 2011. Nerys is an experienced agricultural solicitor who also has first-hand knowledge of the farming industry.
She has a PhD in Sustainable Agriculture and its Implementation and Enforcement at an International, European and regional level. She is a regular speaker on agricultural policy and Brexit matters in the UK and Europe. A fellow of the Agricultural Law Association, Nerys can provide advice on all aspects of agricultural law and can offer holistic farm business planning.
She is an ADR Accredited Mediator and her agricultural background makes her the obvious choice as a mediator for any agricultural, rural property and commercial disputes.
Nerys has two young sons and farms a sheep farm in conjunction with her husband. She is a native Welsh speaker.
Rhodri, based in the Welshpool office, works on a part time basis, joined Agri Advisor in 2012 and became a partner in 2016. Originally from Pontyberem, Rhodri completed his law degree and LPC at Swansea University and then went on to work for legal firms in Cardiff. As well as possessing intense knowledge of agricultural matters he also has experience of dealing with disputes about land, property and commercial disputes, including contracts and partnerships. Rhodri resides on the family beef and sheep farm in Montgomeryshire with his wife, Siwan.
Rhodri became a Fellow of the Agricultural Law Association in 2016. After a period on sabbatical leave which has further expanded his practical farming knowledge, Rhodri who is a fluent Welsh speaker, has returned to legal work during the summer of 2017 whilst continuing his farm work.
Lydia joined Agri Advisor in September 2013 and became a partner in 2016. She works from the Pumsaint and Groesfaen Offices. Lydia brings over 25 years’ experience in private client work to Agri Advisor having worked in legal practices across Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire and has extensive knowledge and expertise which she is able to share with others.
She has experience in all matters of private client and property and is currently head of the Private Client Team at Agri Advisor. Lydia is particularly proud of her achievement of being awarded the qualification of Fellow of the Agricultural Law Association in 2016.
Lydia lives with her two children in Ferryside. She is a fluent Welsh speaker.
Manon joined Agri Advisor on a full-time basis in May 2013 having worked part-time since November 2012. Manon became Partner in May 2019. Manon studied Psychology at Aberystwyth University but since joining Agri Advisor, she returned to her studies to pursue a career in law and qualified as a Solicitor in 2017. Manon has been born and bred on a typical Welsh hill farm in Cil-y-cwm, Carmarthenshire and now lives in Capel Iwan and can therefore service clients throughout south west Wales.
During her time at Agri Advisor, Manon has obtained experience in a variety of areas of law and is an able agricultural lawyer with particular experience in Succession and Estate Planning, Agricultural Holdings Act tenancies and Farm Business tenancies. Manon became a Fellow of the Agricultural Law Association in 2017. She is a fluent Welsh speaker.
Bryn joined Agri Advisor in December 2016 and became Partner in May 2019. He graduated with a law degree in 1998 and after completing the Bar Vocational Course (BVC) was called to the bar in 1999. He qualified as a solicitor in 2003. Bryn worked in private practice In Cardiff and then as a police lawyer for Dyfed Powys, Gwent, South Wales and West Midlands Police, where he was Head of Civil Litigation. Bryn has experience of proceedings in the High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court. He has also appeared in the Magistrates Court and dealt with appeals in the Crown Court relating to the revocation, refusal and renewal of firearms and shotgun certificates.
During his time at Agri Advisor Bryn has gained experience in a variety of areas of agricultural practice but with particular emphasis on farm partnership matters, boundary and right of way disputes, contentious probate (such as ‘proprietary estoppel’) and regulatory prosecutions.
Bryn has grown up within an agricultural environment. The family farm is based in Brecon and home to a herd of 300 pedigree Welsh Black cows. Bryn lives in Wenvoe, Vale of Glamorgan and is based in Groesfaen.
Rachel joined Agri Advisor in March 2019, as Partner and Head of Property & Planning; based in the Welshpool Office, having previously worked in Cheshire for 13 years. Rachel has specialised in Commercial and Agricultural Property work since qualifying as a Solicitor in 2008. She has extensive experience of dealing with a very broad range of Property matters, including sales and purchases of farms/farmland; complex first registrations of Title; Leases of business premises generally; Agricultural Tenancies; Option Agreements and the development of land for commercial and/or residential purposes.
She became a Fellow of the Agricultural Law Association in 2016, furthering her specialised knowledge of Agricultural law generally.
Rachel lives in North Wales and spends most of her spare time behind a piano, as Accompanist and Deputy Musical Director for the Rhos Orpheus Male Choir, and Accompanist to Cor Ger y Ffin.
Awel has been a solicitor with Agri Advisor since 2016 and became Partner in 2019. She has experience in dealing with succession planning including Wills, Capital Gains Tax and Inheritance Tax. She also advises on the preparation and registration of lasting powers of attorney, the registration of existing enduring powers of attorney and the duties of attorneys including the removal of attorneys. The formation of lifetime trusts, their taxation and registration is also an area that Awel is pleased to assist her clients with.
Awel has extensive experience in administering taxable estates and the preparation of Agricultural Property Relief (APR) and Business Property Relief (BPR) applications together with Inheritance Tax applications in complex and high-net worth estates. In addition, she has specialist knowledge in mental health and Court of Protection matters. Awel is a fluent Welsh speaker.
Karen joined Agri Advisor in 2016. Previously Karen worked within the civil service whilst studying for her Masters degree in York before completing her legal training through the University of Glamorgan. Having left the civil service, Karen was appointed Director of Policy for CLA Wales. She spent a successful four-year term at CLA Wales representing membership views on a wide range of agricultural and associated topics. Since joining Agri Advisor she has qualified as a Solicitor and now heads our Hereford Office.
Karen was born into a farming family in West Wales. She met her future husband through the Young Farmers movement. Her marriage saw her becoming the wife of a dairy farmer but subsequent changes in farming policy saw the couple diversify into rearing pedigree native breed suckler cows and growing arable crops. The subsequent sale of the farm prompted the couple to leave day to day farming and Karen is pleased that she can now service the legal needs of the rural community since the opening of our Hereford Office. Karen is a fluent Welsh speaker.
Carol joined us in June 2018 and is based in Welshpool. A graduate of Cardiff University Carol was articled in Newport (Gwent). In 1984 Carol returned to her home near Machynlleth where she has lived since. She joined Griffith-Adams (subsequently David Hughes & Bryan) Solicitors based in Dolgellau and Barmouth in 1984, and was made a partner in 1987.
On the sale of her firm in 2003 Carol returned to Cardiff University to study mathematics. She has since practised as a solicitor in Powys specialising in private client work, preparation of wills, estate administration, in particular in relation to agricultural and high net worth estates involving Agricultural Property Relief, and dealing with ancillary conveyancing and property transfers.
Carol is a member of the Agricultural Law Association and is a fluent Welsh speaker.
Nicola joined Agri Advisor in November 2015 as a Paralegal and quickly established herself in the Litigation department. Nicola has experience in assisting with Rights of Way disputes, Proprietary Estoppel claims, farming Partnership disputes, contractual disputes and Agricultural Holdings Act and Farm Business Tenancies from the landlord and tenant’s perspective. Nicola obtained a BA dual hons degree in Archaeology and Ancient History from Cardiff University in 2003 and is currently completing her second year of a Graduate Diploma in Law at the University of Law, Chester with the view of undertaking her Legal Practitioners Course subsequently.
Before joining Agri Advisor, Nicola held the role of Divisional Police Licensing Officer for Dyfed-Powys Police, reviewing and enforcing licences under the Licensing Act 2003. She regularly represented the Police at review hearings in order to ensure the promotion of the four licensing objectives in licensed premises in Powys. Prior to working for the Police, Nicola worked for a local authority licensing department and also for the regional offices of The National Trust West Midlands.
Nicola grew up on the family beef, arable and sheep farm in Shropshire and keeps a keen eye on her Zwartble sheep. She is a keen runner having ran the London marathon three times.
Hazel joined Agri Advisor in January 2015. Prior to her appointment she worked in the Planning Policy Division of the Welsh Government, contributing to the revision of a number of planning documents including the Planning (Wales) Act 2015 and Technical Advice Note 21: waste. As a professional planner, Hazel has also worked in local government as a Planning Officer, responsible for a case load of varied development management applications.
Hazel has a doctorate in planning and environmental law, awarded by the University of Wales Aberystwyth. Hazel is responsible for the management, delivery and expansion of teaching and training provision to various contractors. She keeps abreast of developing law and policy both domestically and at European and International level. Hazel is central to the work being done at Agri Advisor in relation to Brexit. She is the Environmental Champion.
Elin joined Agri Advisor in August 2016 as a trainee solicitor and qualified as a solicitor in September 2018. Elin studied Law and Welsh at Aberystwyth University before completing the Legal Practice Course at the University of Law, Chester, in June 2016. Elin has obtained experience in various areas of law to include Property, Dispute Resolution and Private Client.
A farmer’s daughter from Llanrwst, Elin continues to increase her agricultural knowledge having moved to her partner’s farm in Hendy, Pontarddulais. Elin spends her spare time helping her partner on his dairy and sheep farm as well as being an active member of the local YFC. She is a fluent Welsh speaker.
Ellie joined Agri Advisor in March 2019 as a Rural Chartered Surveyor. Ellie graduated from Harper Adams University in July 2016, from there she worked for a mixed rural professional practise and auctioneers based in the West Midlands for two and half years.
Ellie passed her RICS APC (Assessment of Professional Competence) in November 2017 becoming a qualified Rural Chartered Surveyor, and thereafter passed her exams to become a member of the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers in November 2018. Additionally, Ellie is an RICS Registered Valuer enabling her to conduct an array of valuations for items such as probate, tax planning or sale purposes. She has extensive experience in completing planning, BPS, grant and stewardship applications in England.
Ellie is from a family farm in the South of Herefordshire, where her family keep a large herd of South Devon X suckler cows.
Ally has been part of the Agri Advisor team since early 2013 having previously worked for Burdens, a civil engineering and utility supplier, for 12 years in stock control, IT and administration.
In her Agri Advisor role as Paralegal, Ally assists the partners and solicitors and is also the first port of call for the firm’s IT and technology matters. She is a very able assistant on property and private client matters.
Ally is originally from Llandysul, Ceredigion and now resides near Llandeilo and has recently celebrated her 25th wedding anniversary to husband Kelly. They have two football mad sons and Ally spends most of her free time being their taxi for training and matches. She is a fluent Welsh speaker.
Adriana joined Agri Advisor in November 2018 as a trainee solicitor based in our Hereford office. In November 2016 Adriana became a Fellow of the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers and passed her APC (Assessment of Professional Competence) in November 2017 becoming a Chartered Rural Surveyor. Adriana has worked within private practice working on a broad range of land agency jobs, prior to this she was an adviser for the Tenant Farmers Association. Adriana was also the TFA Welsh adviser which meant that she advised members on BPS in Wales, Welsh agricultural policy and participated as a stakeholder within RPW and other key industry organisations.
Adriana has grown up within a farming community. Adriana participates in showing, dressage and riding out with her parents and partner Jacqui.
Katie joined Agri Advisor in March 2019 as an Agricultural Advisor. Katie has joined us from NFU Mutual, where she was based in the Haverfordwest office for four and half years.
Whilst there Katie dealt with all aspects of insurance, from claims to new business. She worked closely with the agricultural clients and undertook all aspects relating to their policies. Katie’s main areas of focus within the business will be to assist clients in preparing their business for the future, including making them aware of assistance that is available to them.
Katie is from an arable family farm in Pembrokeshire, where her family also run an Agronomy business. She is actively involved with the Young Farmers Movement, currently being Pembrokeshire County Chairman and Wales Vice-Chairman. Katie has also previously taken part in the Tesco Future Farmer Foundation and the Agri Academy Rural Leadership Programme.
Business Support Team
Sharon is originally from the Gwendraeth valley and has lived on a farm near Llandeilo with her husband Richard for over 30 years. They have three grown up children. Sharon has a degree in Libarianship and Education from Aberystwyth University and has worked in customer care for a number of years.
Sharon is a valued member of Agri Advisor’s Dispute Resolution and Training team and her role includes administration work, customer care and providing support for the team as a whole.
Sharon is a keen Swans fan and has been a season ticket holder since the 1980s; she watches every game, when she’s not busy on the family farm. A fluent Welsh speaker, Sharon oversees the firm’s bilingual policy.
Kelly has been part of the Agri Advisor team since August 2013. As a legal secretary she is responsible for the smooth running of the busy office at Pumsaint whilst also providing support with the administration of our Welshpool and Cardiff offices.
Kelly provides administrative support to our busy partners, solicitors and consultants and during her time at Agri Advisor has completed her NVQ Level 2 Foundation Apprenticeship in Business & Administration.
Kelly is originally from Tregaron and is married with three young children, she now lives in Farmers. Kelly is a fluent Welsh speaker and is one of the main initial contacts for Agri Advisor clients.
Kelly-Anne joined Agri Advisor in September 2018 after relocating to Herefordshire from Bristol. Prior to Kelly-Anne joining Agri Advisor, she worked as a Legal Secretary in a large law firm in Bristol. Kelly-Anne was with this firm for over 17 and a half years, working in both the Commercial Property Department and Property Litigation Department. Kelly-Anne is based in our new Hereford Office offering administration support to the team. Outside of work Kelly-Anne enjoys spending time with her family and fills her spare time by taking long walks with her dog and doing lots of baking. Kelly-Anne is currently on maternity leave.
Kay, a farmer’s daughter, joined Agri Advisor in June 2016. Prior to this she worked in HR in Dunbia, Llanybydder and Pembrokeshire Housing Association. In addition, Kay has worked for Tesco and JJ Morris Estate Agents & Auctioneers, thus gaining experience in both large and small organisations in both the private and public sectors.
Kay is responsible for all staffing matters including recruitment and the development of personnel within the Agri Advisor Team; ensuring staff are well equipped with the latest information to provide a consistently high level of service to all clients. Kay’s main duties include employee relations and engagement, communication and team structure, HR policies, ensuring legal compliance and performance management, and aiding in succession planning for a strong team for the future.
With the team expanding in Agri Advisor, Kay has responsibility for maintaining HR systems maximising employee performance at all times. She is a fluent Welsh speaker.
Heidi lives in Cwmann with her partner and their one son. She is a fluent Welsh speaker.
Heidi joined the Agri Advisor team in February 2016. Heidi’s responsibilities include all administrative duties and accurate record keeping including recording the documents kept onsite in our strong-room and storage area. Heidi assists with post in and post out and banking duties and is also responsible also for maintaining a clean and happy office for Agri Advisor’s growing team.
Heidi welcomes clients to the office and is always on hand and eager to assist.
Hannah joined Agri Advisor in November 2018 and is based in our Welshpool office. Hannah provides administrative and secretarial support to the Welshpool team.
After graduating from Cardiff University with an honours degree in music in 2017, Hannah decided to return to her home in rural mid wales and pursue a career in law.
Hannah is currently studying the Graduate Diploma in Law at the University of Law in Birmingham, and is looking forward to the valuable experience she will gain working for Agri Advisor.
In her spare time, Hannah enjoys playing rugby and is an active member of her local Young Farmers club. She is also a fluent Welsh speaker.
Lowri commenced her employment in February 2017 in the role of Receptionist/Secretary based at Llys y Llan, Pumsaint. Lowri’s role includes all aspects of administration work and customer care.
Lowri is a fluent Welsh speaker and is one of the main initial contacts for Agri Advisor clients.
Sharon joined Agri Advisor in March 2019. Sharon works as a Legal Secretary covering all aspects of administration and secretarial work providing support to our Fee Earners. Having worked in numerous Legal Practices previously Sharon brings with her experience and knowledge of the legal industry.
She has lived on a smallholding keeping sheep and horses, thus giving knowledge of Agriculture. In her spare-time she enjoys listening to music and reading. She is a fluent Welsh Speaker.
Cathy joined the Agri Advisor team in April 2019 in the role of Office Assistant based in our Cardiff Office. Cathy’s responsibilities include all administration work and customer care and is a fluent welsh speaker.
Cathy lives in Cardiff with her husband and three children, prior to this she lived in Lampeter, Ceredigion and worked for Ceredigion County Council for over 20 years.
