We are seeking an experienced, hands‑on Finance Manager to drive financial performance, support strategic planning, and ensure the firm’s continued commercial growth.
As a senior member of the Business Services leadership team, the Finance Manager will provide strategic oversight and practical leadership across all financial and operational support functions. You will ensure the financial integrity of the firm, maintain robust controls, and enable colleagues to deliver exceptional service to our clients.
The role requires a proactive, forward‑thinking leader who promotes accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement across the team and wider firm.

Reports to: Head of Business Services
Line manager to Accounts Assistant, Operations Assistant, Performance Coordinator, and Credit Control Assistant and any Finance team members.
Key attributes:
- Experience in banking and/or accountancy, ideally with accountancy qualifications.
- Meticulous attention to detail, with strong understanding of office and client account ledgers and nominals.
- Proven experience in leading and managing people effectively.
Duties to include:
- To ensure resources and support are available Firm-wide enabling colleagues to provide high quality service to clients and visitors at all times, in well maintained, safe and welcoming office environments.
- Ensure business efficiency optimised by ongoing review of services utilised across the firm, ensuring bulk purchase maximized wherever possible.
- Ensuring Financial compliance of SRA and HMRC requirements.
- Managing and ensuring compliance with firm performance KPIs and oversight of compliance with team performance KPIs
- Ensure physical and technological security across business is optimal.
- Undertake monthly review meetings with Team members and Team Leaders to assess progress.
- Ensure Work Plan for Finance Team is implemented consistently, with progress being reviewed monthly at Management Board meetings.
- Ensuring cost effective IT systems are effectively sourced and utilised firm-wide to maximum capabilities.
- All requests from colleagues for resources are handled in a timely manner.
- Undertake Annual Appraisals with Team members – with support from HR.
- Ensure resources internally to provide bilingual services to clients and external communication.
- Building and retaining relationships with organisations to enable membership of panels/access to work in specialist areas.
- Effective day to day decision making responsibility in relation to Accounts and Operations areas across the business.
- Be a positive leader to others within the business and support staff retention and recruitment.
- Be innovative and forward thinking to ensure the business continues to embrace change.
Finance Manager Responsibilities:
- Approval of Bank transactions
- Setting up bank transactions to provide cover where necessary.
- Dealing with queries in relation to accounting postings and resolving issues.
- Deals with day-to-day enquiries from team members on financial matters.
- Submits Financial Reports to Management Board on a monthly basis and EB on a quarterly basis
- Review monthly reconciliations provided by cashiers and ensure issues are addressed
- Prepare annual financial budget for approval by EB
- Manage overall financial budgets during the year to include managing cashflow
- Review monthly financial statistics provided by our accounting package, monitor nominal postings and make recommendations to EB in relation to Profit &Loss and Balance Sheet and to Management Board in relation to financial performance of teams
- Ensure compliance with PAYE, VAT and liaise with HMRC where required
- Responsibility for firm wide Credit Control
- Liaising with the bank and being main contact
- Ensure Creditors are paid promptly.
Compliance Officer for Finance and Administration (COFA) Responsibilities:
- Ensure that the firm and its managers and employees comply with any obligations imposed upon them under the Solicitors’ Accounts Rules;
- Ensure prompt reporting to the SRA.
In addition to your primary duties, you may be required to undertake additional or different duties, which, from time to time, and consistent with your role in the company and in support of other members of the Business Services Team.
