Dr Nerys Llewelyn Jones founded Agri Advisor in 2011 on her home farm in Pumsaint, Carmarthenshire. Nerys, the Managing Partner of Agri Advisor, is an experienced agricultural solicitor who also has first-hand knowledge of the farming industry.
She has a PhD in Sustainable Agriculture and its Implementation at an International, European and regional level. She is a regular speaker on CAP matters in the UK and Europe. A fellow of the Agricultural Law Association, Nerys can provide advice on all aspects of agricultural law and can offer holistic farm business planning.
Nerys is an ADR Accredited Mediator and her agricultural background makes her the obvious choice as a mediator for agricultural, rural property and commercial dispute.
Nerys has two young sons and farms a sheep farm in conjunction with her husband. She is a fluent Welsh speaker.
Rhodri, based in the Welshpool office, joined Agri Advisor in 2012 and became a partner in 2016. Originally from Pontyberem, Rhodri completed his law degree and LPC at Swansea University and then went on to work for legal firms in Cardiff. As well as possessing intense knowledge of agricultural matters he also has experience of dealing with disputes about land, property and commercial disputes, including contracts and partnerships.
Rhodri resides on the family beef and sheep farm in Montgomeryshire with his wife, Siwan. Rhodri became a Fellow of the Agricultural Law Association in 2016. After a period on sabbatical leave which has further expanded his practical farming knowledge, Rhodri, who is a fluent Welsh speaker, has returned to legal work during the summer of 2017.
Lydia joined Agri Advisor in September 2013 and became a Partner in 2016. Lydia brings over 25 years’ experience in private client work to Agri Advisor having worked in legal practices across Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire and has extensive knowledge and expertise which she is able to share with others.
She has experience in all matters of private client and property and is currently head of the Private Client Team with Agri Advisor.
Lydia is particularly proud of her achievement of being awarded the qualification of Fellow of the Agricultural Law Association in 2016. Lydia lives with her two children near Lampeter. She is a fluent Welsh speaker.
Bryn joined Agri Advisor in December 2016. He graduated with a law degree in 1998 and after completing the Bar Vocational Course (BVC) was called to the Bar in 1999. He qualified as a solicitor in 2003.
Bryn worked in private practice in Cardiff and then as a police lawyer for Dyfed Powys, Gwent, South Wales and West Midlands Police, where he was Head of Civil Litigation. Bryn has experience of proceedings in the High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court. He has also appeared in the Magistrates Court and dealt with appeals in the Crown Court relating to the revocation, refusal and renewal of firearms and shotgun certificates.
During his time at Agri Advisor Bryn has gained experience in a variety of areas of agricultural practice but with particular emphasis on farm partnership matters, boundary and right of way disputes, contentious probate (such as “proprietary estoppel”) and regulatory prosecutions.
Bryn has grown up within an agricultural environment. The family farm is based in Brecon and home to a herd of 300 pedigree Welsh Black cows. Bryn lives in Wenvoe, Vale of Glamorgan.
Manon joined Agri Advisor on a full-time basis in May 2013 having worked part-time since November 2012. Manon studied Psychology at Aberystwyth University but since joining Agri Advisor, she returned to her studies to pursue a career in law. Manon has been born and bred on a typical Welsh hill farm in Cil-y-cwm, Carmarthenshire and now lives in Capel Iwan and can therefore service clients throughout south west Wales.
During her time at Agri Advisor, Manon has obtained experience in a variety of areas of law and is an able agricultural lawyer with particular experience in Succession and Estate Planning, Agricultural Holdings Act tenancies and Farm Business tenancies. Manon became a Fellow of the Agricultural Law Association in 2017. She is a fluent Welsh speaker.
Elin joined Agri Advisor in August 2016 as a trainee solicitor. Elin studied Law and Welsh at Aberystwyth University before completing the Legal Practice Course at the University of Law, Chester, in June 2016. Elin has just completed her first seat in the Property and Planning team before moving on to Dispute Resolution and she is looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead.
A farmer’s daughter from Llanrwst, Elin continues to increase her agricultural knowledge having moved to her partner’s farm in Pontarddulais. Elin spends her spare time helping her partner on his dairy and sheep farm as well as being an active member of the local YFC. She is a fluent Welsh speaker.
Nicola joined Agri Advisor in November 2015 as a Litigation Assistant. Nicola has experience in assisting with Rights of Way disputes, Proprietary Estoppel claims and contractual claims.
Before joining Agri Advisor Nicola held the role of Divisional Police Licensing Officer for Dyfed-Powys Police. Working within the Licensing Act 2003, she represented the police in ensuring the four licensing objectives were promoted within licensed premises in Powys. Prior to working for the police, Nicola worked for a local authority licensing department and also for the regional offices of The National Trust West Midlands.
Nicola grew up on the family beef, arable and sheep farm in Shropshire and still takes a keen interest in her own Texel ewes that reside there.
Sharon is originally from the Gwendraeth valley but has lived on a farm near Llandeilo with her husband Richard for over 30 years. They have 3 grown up children. Sharon has a degree in Librarianship and Education from Aberystwyth University and has worked in customer care for a number of years.
Sharon is a valued member of Agri Advisor’s Dispute Resolution and Training team and her role includes administration work, customer care and providing support for the team as a whole.
Sharon is a keen Swans fan and has been a season ticket holder since the 1980s; she watches every game, when she’s not busy on the family farm. A fluent Welsh speaker, Sharon oversees the firm’s bilingual policy.
Hazel joined Agri Advisor in January 2015. Prior to her appointment she worked in the Planning Policy Division of the Welsh Government, contributing to the revision of a number of planning documents including the Planning (Wales) Act 2015 and Technical Advice Note 21: waste. As a professional planner, Hazel has also worked in local government as a Planning Officer, responsible for a case load of varied development management applications.
Hazel has a doctorate in planning and environmental law, awarded by the University of Wales Aberystwyth. Hazel is responsible for the management, delivery and expansion of teaching and training provision to various contractors. She keeps abreast of developing law and policy both domestically and at European and International level. Hazel is central to the work being done at Agri Advisor in relation to Brexit. She is the Environmental Champion.
Karen joined Agri Advisor in 2016. Previously Karen worked within the civil service whilst studying for her Masters degree in York before completing her legal training through the University of Glamorgan. Having left the civil service, Karen was appointed Director of Policy for CLA Wales. She spent a successful four-year term at CLA Wales representing membership views on a wide range of agricultural and associated topics.
Karen was born into a farming family in west Wales. She met her future husband through the Young Farmers movement. Her marriage saw her becoming the wife of a dairy farmer but subsequent changes in farming policy saw the couple diversify into rearing pedigree native breed suckler cows and growing arable crops. The subsequent sale of the farm has prompted the couple to leave day to day farming. Karen is a fluent Welsh Speaker.
Ally has been part of the Agri Advisor team since early 2013 having previously worked for Burdens, a civil engineering and utility supplier, for 12 years in stock control, IT and administration.
In her Agri Advisor role as Paralegal, Ally assists the partners and solicitors and is also the first port of call for the firm’s IT and technology matters. She is a very able assistant on property and private client matters.
Ally is originally from Llandysul, Ceredigion and now resides near Llandeilo and has recently celebrated her 25th wedding anniversary to husband Kelly. They have two football mad sons and Ally spends most of her free time being their taxi for training and matches. She is a fluent Welsh speaker.
Kelly has been part of the Agri Advisor team since August 2013. As a legal secretary she is responsible for the smooth running of the busy office at Pumsaint whilst also providing support with the administration of our Welshpool and Cardiff offices.
Kelly provides administrative support to our busy partners, solicitors and consultants and during her time at Agri Advisor has completed her NVQ Level 2 Foundation Apprenticeship in Business & Administration.
Kelly is originally from Tregaron and is married with three young children, she now lives in Farmers. Kelly is a fluent Welsh speaker and is one of the main initial contacts for Agri Advisor clients.
Awel has been a solicitor with Agri Advisor since 2016. She has experience in dealing with succession planning including Wills, Capital Gains Tax and Inheritance Tax. She also advises on the preparation and registration of lasting powers of attorney, the registration of existing enduring powers of attorney and the duties of attorneys including the removal of attorneys. The formation of lifetime trusts, their taxation and registration is also an area that Awel is pleased to assist her clients with.
Awel has extensive experience in administering taxable estates and the preparation of Agricultural Property Relief (APR) and Business Property Relief (BPR) applications together with inheritance tax applications in complex and high-net worth estates. In addition, she has specialist knowledge in mental health and court of protection matters. Awel is a fluent Welsh speaker.
Eleanor was articled in the City and was a partner in another London firm until she set up her own practice in 1990 which she ran until becoming a consultant with Agri Advisor in 2016. She is based in her home in Surrey – but attends Agri Advisor’s offices regularly.
For many years she specialised in agricultural matters, in the main on the landlord’s side. She has acted for pension funds taking over farms and estates as well as acting for owners of landed estates and some tenants in dealing with their tenancy problems. In connection with landed estates, her main expertise is Trust law.
Eleanor is one of the few who understand Settled Land Act Trusts in the UK. A member of the Agricultural Law Association, and also its Education Officer, Eleanor has put together the ALA’s teaching programme and has taught, lectured and written many articles.
Yvonne joined Agri Advisor in December 2014 as a Legal Assistant. Previously, Yvonne worked in both the food processing and manufacturing sectors for several years. Her nine-year role within the food processing industry was a group procurement role where she provided a combination of PA/logistical/financial/marketing/project support to the Dunbia Group Lamb Procurement Manager and the sites in mainland UK and Ireland.
During her 16 years within the manufacturing sector Yvonne worked for Lindstrand Hot Air Balloons, who serviced clientele worldwide from mainland Europe to USA and the African continents. She joined the company after gaining her degree in French and English and a subsequent PA qualification.
At Agri Advisor, Yvonne is responsible for running the Welshpool office and providing general support to the members of the team. Her secondary role is a marketing role - promoting the firm and its brand.
Kay, a farmer’s daughter, joined Agri Advisor in June 2016. Prior to this she worked in HR in Dunbia, Llanybydder and Pembrokeshire Housing Association. In addition, Kay has worked for Tesco and JJ Morris Estate Agents & Auctioneers, thus gaining experience in both large and small organisations in both the private and public sectors.
Kay is responsible for all staffing matters including recruitment and the development of personnel within the Agri Advisor Team; ensuring staff are well equipped with the latest information to provide a consistently high level of service to all clients. Kay’s main duties include employee relations and engagement, communication and team structure, HR policies, ensuring legal compliance and performance management, and aiding in succession planning for a strong team for the future.
With the team expanding in Agri Advisor, Kay has responsibility for maintaining HR systems maximising employee performance at all times. She is a fluent Welsh speaker.
Heidi lives in Cwmann with her partner and their one son. She is a fluent Welsh speaker.
Heidi joined the Agri Advisor team in February 2016. Heidi’s responsibilities include all administrative duties and accurate record keeping including recording the documents kept onsite in our strong-room and storage area. Heidi assists with post in and post out and banking duties and is also responsible also for maintaining a clean and happy office for Agri Advisor’s growing team.
Heidi welcomes clients to the office and is always on hand and eager to assist.
Lowri commenced her employment in February 2017 in the role of Receptionist/Secretary based at Llys y Llan, Pumsaint. Lowri’s role includes all aspects of administration work and customer care.
Lowri is a fluent Welsh speaker and is one of the main initial contacts for Agri Advisor clients.
Lowri is currently on Maternity Leave which commenced mid October 2017 and we look forward to her return October 2018. Work previously undertaken by Lowri will be passed to other members of our Admin Support Team.
